Title 1 Reading Support Services 2023-2024
Dear Parent(s) / Guardian(s) of_________________________________Grade: ______
Based on more rigorous expectations in reading and your child’s teacher recommendation, we feel your student would benefit from Title 1 support. This extra support is provided free of charge for their continued growth and success. We work in small groups and occasionally one-on-one and make the learning fun!
Ongoing evaluation and grouping of students according to our reading assessments and progress monitoring will help show your child’s instructional needs. No student will ever miss whole class instruction, specials (computer, library, art, music, PE), recess, lunch, parties, snacks or other special events for Title support.
A Title reading specialist, ELA teacher, or highly qualified para educator will be working with your child and will work closely with his/her classroom teacher as well.
We will closely monitor your child’s progress to determine the need for any changes in the differentiated instruction within the classroom, reading groups, and the Title 1 program and will address those needs promptly.
Thank you for your support in your child’s education. If you have any questions, please feel free to call, email, or visit with us. Please return the attached permission slip.
Sincerely,
Ms. Kaytee Deines, Title 1 Teacher, (kdeines@usd434.us)
Ms. Jodi Testa, Principal, (jtesta@usd434.us)

Frequently Asked Questions about the CAC Title Program
-
How does my student qualify for Title I assistance?
Multiple criteria are considered when deciding whether there is a need for Title I assistance beyond the regular classroom curriculum. The criteria includes: (1) FastBridge Learning assessment program that provides universal screening, progress monitoring, skills analysis, and instructional guidance. (2) 95% Group Phonics Screener for Intervention. (3) Teacher observations within the classroom, as well as demonstration of isolated delays in the mastery of skills.
-
What is the purpose and what are the goals of the Title I program?
Title I teachers use the information gathered above to develop the appropriate interventions that a student needs beyond the regular classroom instruction to help them succeed academically. We meet daily for 20-30 minutes and students are monitored closely. Our goal is to train missing reading subskills and provide students with strategies necessary to become independent strategic readers.
-
What instruction and activities do students participate in the Title I program?
Instruction may be one-on-one but is mostly in a small group setting. Activities are developed based on the necessary interventions determined by assessments and progress monitoring. These activities may be a reteach of what was provided in the classroom or work on an isolated skill that should be mastered. Activities may include technology programs, flash cards, games, hands-on work with manipulatives, multisensory learning activities, and reading books! Progress monitoring is used to show whether the intervention is meeting the student’s needs and is adjusted accordingly.
-
What must students show to be dismissed from Title services?
Students must show adequate progress demonstrating mastery of reading skills, perform at grade level and maintain proficiency in order to be dismissed from the Title program.
-
How is the progress of a Title I student communicated?
Title progress reports are sent home each quarter with classroom grade cards. Parents are always welcome to schedule individual conferences with the Title I teacher as well to discuss progress.
-
How can parents and teachers discuss their child’s progress with the Title I teachers?
The Title teacher is available at parent teacher conferences. Individual conferences can be requested by the parents and teachers. Emails and telephone calls are always welcome at any point during the year.
Thank you for your continued support of your student’s academic endeavors. We appreciate what you do at home and look forward to working with your child.
